Sustainability at the Hotel Schlehdorn

We strive to combine sustainability with vacationing. That is why we offer our guests the opportunity to offset their CO₂ emissions through voluntary donations. This helps make your stay more climate-friendly.

We’d be happy to provide you with information about where your donations go. We fund certified climate protection projects and support local ecosystems and biodiversity in the Feldberg region. Please feel free to contact us directly for more information.

Decide whether you’d like to participate either when you make your reservation or when you check in at the front desk.

DEHOGA environmental check: Gold environmental award

The DEHOGA Environmental Check is a certification program of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) that promotes environmentally friendly management in hotels and restaurants. Businesses are evaluated based on criteria such as energy and water consumption, waste management, and the use of locally sourced food.
Our business has received the highest award, the DEHOGA Environmental Check in Gold. This recognition confirms our commitment to sustainable action and efficient use of resources. With the gold environmental check, we are setting an example for active environmental protection and offering our guests an environmentally conscious choice.

New PV system supplies clean electricity for our hotel

In May 2024, our new photovoltaic system with a capacity of approx. 30 kW was put into operation. This state-of-the-art system produces up to 10 kW of electricity even on rainy days, which significantly supports our sustainable energy efforts. Within the first four weeks of operation, we were able to reduce CO₂ emissions by an impressive 1,147.4 kg. Extrapolated over a full year, this amounts to a reduction of approximately 14,900 kg of CO₂—a significant contribution to climate protection!

Wood chip system supplies hotel with sustainable heat

The plant uses biomass as fuel and thus makes a significant contribution to reducing the use of fossil fuels. This enables us to cover a large part of our heating requirements sustainably and significantly reduce our ecological footprint.

Promotion of electromobility: e-charging stations at the hotel and self-service area

In our efforts to promote sustainable mobility, we have installed eight e-charging stations at the hotel. These charging stations are available to our guests and employees and enable the convenient charging of electric vehicles. With this initiative, we are actively contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the transport sector and supporting the spread of electromobility.

Energy-saving lighting concept for greater sustainability

Our hotel has switched to a completely energy-saving lighting concept. All light sources have been replaced by energy-efficient LEDs, which not only significantly reduce power consumption but also have a longer service life. Motion detectors are also installed in the public areas, which only switch the light on when required. In addition, the lighting is time-controlled to further minimize unnecessary energy consumption. These measures contribute to a significant reduction in our energy consumption.

100% green electricity from PV system and hydropower

We rely exclusively on sustainable sources for our electricity requirements. Our new photovoltaic system supplies us with clean solar power. In addition, we purchase electricity from regional hydropower, which ensures that our energy consumption is covered entirely by renewable energies. This combination of solar and hydropower enables us to make a significant contribution to environmental protection and maximize the sustainability of our operations.

Efficient heat recovery in the pool area

In the pool area, we rely on an advanced heat recovery system. By using air heat exchangers, the heat from the exhaust air is used to heat the fresh supply air. This technology allows us to reduce energy costs and increase comfort for our guests at the same time. Recycling the thermal energy is a further step towards sustainable hotel operations.

Sustainable renovations: Roof and facade

In order to further increase the energy efficiency of our hotel, we have carried out extensive renovations to the roof and façade. Modern insulation materials were used and efficient windows installed. These measures ensure better insulation of the building and significantly reduce the energy required for heating and cooling. Thanks to improved insulation, we are helping to reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance our guests’ comfort.
