The Hotel Schlehdorn combines sustainability and comfort by offering guests the opportunity to make their stay climate-friendly through voluntary donations. These donations are used to offset CO2 emissions: On the one hand, we finance certified climate protection projects and, on the other, we support the local ecosystems and biodiversity on the Feldberg. As our guests, you can make your contribution to climate protection either during the booking process or at check-out at reception.
In May 2024, our new photovoltaic system with a capacity of approx. 30 kW was put into operation. This state-of-the-art system produces up to 10 kW of electricity even on rainy days, which significantly supports our sustainable energy efforts. Within the first four weeks of commissioning, we were able to save an impressive 1147.4 kg of CO2. Extrapolated to a whole year, this corresponds to a saving of around 14,900 kg of CO2 – a considerable contribution to climate protection!
Our wood chip plant with an output of 1.2 MW ensures that the hotel, the Schwarzenbach apartment building, the staff house and the pools in the Hotel Schlehdorn and the Schwarzenbach are supplied with reliable and environmentally friendly heat. The plant uses biomass as fuel and thus makes a significant contribution to reducing the use of fossil fuels. This enables us to cover a large part of our heating requirements sustainably and significantly reduce our ecological footprint.
In our efforts to promote sustainable mobility, we have installed eight e-charging stations at the hotel. These charging stations are available to our guests and employees and enable the convenient charging of electric vehicles. With this initiative, we are actively contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the transport sector and supporting the spread of electromobility.
Our hotel has switched to a completely energy-saving lighting concept. All light sources have been replaced by energy-efficient LEDs, which not only significantly reduce power consumption but also have a longer service life. Motion detectors are also installed in the public areas, which only switch the light on when required. In addition, the lighting is time-controlled to further minimize unnecessary energy consumption. These measures contribute to a significant reduction in our energy consumption.
We rely exclusively on sustainable sources for our electricity requirements. Our new photovoltaic system supplies us with clean solar power. In addition, we purchase electricity from regional hydropower, which ensures that our energy consumption is covered entirely by renewable energies. This combination of solar and hydropower enables us to make a significant contribution to environmental protection and maximize the sustainability of our operations.
In the pool area, we rely on an advanced heat recovery system. By using air heat exchangers, the heat from the exhaust air is used to heat the fresh supply air. This technology allows us to reduce energy costs and increase comfort for our guests at the same time. Recycling the thermal energy is a further step towards sustainable hotel operations.
In order to further increase the energy efficiency of our hotel, we have carried out extensive renovations to the roof and façade. Modern insulation materials were used and efficient windows installed. These measures ensure better insulation of the building and significantly reduce the energy required for heating and cooling. Thanks to the improved insulation values, we are helping to reduce CO2 emissions and increase the living comfort of our guests.
